What is Bay Area Bloggers Society?

"BABS" is a place to meet in person, share the learning curves of

technology, and develop our collective intelligence together. We are

an O'Reilly Media-sponsored user group meeting around the SF Bay

area. Our topics range from content to multi-media to marketing -

in response to the needs of our members. Our meetings are organized

on Meetup.com here: BABS on the Meetup.

Suzanna's story:

In 2008, I saw blogs evolving into a new level of meaning for modern

communication. The game-changing simple publishing platform that

allowed everyone a voice was coalescing into a stable hub for new media.

The blog is your front porch

I describe blogs as a friendly portal to modern communication.

These simple, affordable websites that allow many more people

to enter the playing field, publish their work, and reach out to

the world were sprouting new possibilities for connection and

collaboration. Still, so many people were having difficulty getting

their new online presence up and running. Learning from online

resources just doesn't work for everyone. We're humans who need

to learn with other humans.

This need for better ways to learn was the seed for

Bay Area Bloggers Society.

We build collective intelligence

We are not only bloggers, however. While many of us are well-versed in the blogosphere, we are also a diverse group of professionals who provide an array of services related to computers and the Internet. We embrace new users and all skill levels as we learn together and become part of the rich conversation.

Bay Area Bloggers Society went "on the Meetup" in 2009. That means we started using Meetup.com as our organizing website. The folks over at Meetup.com make it so easy! And it is a great way for the community to find BABS. You can see our site there and stay informed about all our upcoming gatherings. Here's the link: BABS on the Meetup

I recommend that you sign up on the Meetup, because BABS user group members enjoy many benefits, including wonderful books from our sponsor, O'Reilly Media. Many of our Members on BABS Directory have been referred to us through BABS meetings, and it's a wonderful place for Members and potential clients to meet and get to know each other.

BABS Directory is my response to many requests at BABS gatherings for better access to local creative services, web helpers, and our artists, performers, venues and merchants. You'd think that in this age of connection, we would all be very easy to find -- but it seems the opposite is true.

I hope you'll join BABS Directory and use it as the direct connection to a thriving creative community right in your back yard.

See you soon!

Bay Area Bloggers Society
: Founded in 2008 by Suzanna Stinnett.

Purpose: We provide Bay area residents with salon-style gatherings to share the learning curves of technology and modern communication. These gatherings are no-cost or low-cost and promote local networking to help solve problems of isolation and widely diverse skill levels related to important communication tools.

BABS Directory of Reclamation Arts: Founded in 2010 by Suzanna Stinnett.

Purpose: The BABS Directory of Reclamation Arts exists to provide the San Francisco Bay Area with a reliable, accessible resource for connection to our expansive creative community. It helps entrepreneurs, artists, performers, and many other creatives to be more visible through our collaborative presence. The Directory provides a network, and allows us to imagine new kinds of relationships between artists, merchants, providers of reclaimed resources, and venues. Our web professionals provide the critical pieces of modern communication for our creative community. The directory is intended to be an innovation to further our collaborative capacity, strengthen bonds, and serve our growing potential as connected communities.

Reclamation Arts includes DIY, crafters, makers, and the array of artists of all ilk who relate to the creation of a more sustainable local community.

Let's work and play together!
